Explorer's Map Directions
Although not very accurate, maps were used by early explorers to plan their ship's course. Below are a couple old maps from the days of early exploration. Compare them. What differences do you notice? Which one do you think was drawn first? How do you know?
Your explorer would have either had maps or made maps of the areas he explored. You will make a map that shows your explorer's voyage or expedition and include it in your explorer's treasure chest.
Using an atlas or online resource as a guide, you will draw a map of the area where your explorer explored which includes the following details:
1. Title (5pts) 2. Compass Rose including cardinal directions (5 pts) 3. Map Key (20 pts)
4. Route (60 points)
If your explorer went on more than one voyage or expedition, you must draw the most important route. You may draw all of his routes if you choose to. 5. Creativeness (10 Points)
